Mark Greenberg's Statement on Elizabeth Esty Continuing to Use Information That Even the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee Has Deemed False to Slander Him

Statement

"Elizabeth Esty and her friends on the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) have been caught in a web of lies and deceit many times in this campaign. Just last week, the Hartford Courant reported the DCCC's 99-page research book made false claims about a 2003 case I had nothing to do with. The Courant also rated Esty's latest attacks on me as "FALSE," calling them dramatically misleading.

A recent review of the DCCC's book reveals their 99 pages of lies and distortions have become 98. It doesn't take long to figure out that Esty and friends have removed the false 2003 reference in an effort to walk back their careless and malicious research. However, their recent push polls have used this case about a heart wrenching story about an infant suffering acute lead poisoning at a building Esty and her friends claimed that I owned-the problem is I did not ever own this property.

Worse yet, a mail piece supporting Elizabeth Esty and attacking me earlier this week repeated these same misleading claims that have been verified as false. This Esty mail piece was mailed AFTER the lead paint story was proven false by the Courant

A push poll on behalf of Elizabeth Esty also repeated these lies and you can hear that audio here. It was from a democrat polling company that was fined $20,000 for misleading voters in New Hampshire. Now, they are misleading voters in our district in an effort to elect Elizabeth Esty at any cost.

Elizabeth Esty says she is more committed than ever to campaign finance reform. It is time she back up those haughty claims by denouncing the DCCC's lies, disavowing party and Super PAC spending in the 5th District race, and apologizing to voters for her false and misleading attacks on my record. Let's also not forget it was Elizabeth Esty who starred in a Super PAC commercial bragging that if it wasn't for one of these groups, she would not have won her 2012 race.

Voters in the 5th District have discovered again and again that Elizabeth Esty is just another politician fighting for Barack Obama, Dan Malloy and special interests in Washington. Her refusal to hold outside groups accountable for their lies further indicates she doesn't care about campaign finance reform. If elected I will commit to rolling back the influence of Super PACs, holding members of Congress accountable for the laws they create, and reining in the influence of outside spending on our free and fair elections. Voters in the 5th District and across the country deserve that kind of accountability from their Congress.

I call on Elizabeth Esty to immediately renounce her misleading television commercials and mail personally, rather than issuing statements through campaign surrogates. In addition, I call on her to remove her commercials from the airwaves immediately. Failure to do so will just reinforce that she is solidly behind the strategy of lying to voters to try and get elected at all costs."
